Central Georgetown

Gorgeous Georgetown mansion

Georgetown

Georgetown, which is county seat of Williamson County, was founded in 1848. It was named after George Washington Glasscock, who donated the land.  Early pioneers were attracted to the area's abundance of timber and good, clear water, just as the Tonkawa Indians, who thrived in the area for many years. In addition, the land was inexpensive and extremely fertile.

Georgetown is located only about 28 miles from Austin, which makes it ideal for commuting.

Down Town Georgetown still stands with old buildings restored to its Victorian and Edwardian splendor. Buildings that are over a century old line the main street, with quaint shops to please the most discerning antiquarians. There is also the Georgetown Palace Theatre, which caters to live theatre lovers.

Georgetown values are kept stable by a City dedicated to its residents. With one of the lowest property tax rates in central Texas, and locals always looking for ways to keep the beauty of their city intact, this is a utopia to discover. Georgetown is also home to Southwestern University, an affiliation of United Methodist Church. Southwestern offers bachelor's degrees in arts, science, music and fine arts, and is one of the nation's leading liberal arts universities.
